In-N-Out

That was the theme of the day… In-N-Out! The waves were horrible down in San Clemente today so CWach and I made the call to rush it North and we ended up scoring at Rincon!  After braving LA in the rain and our first (of two) missions to In-N-Out, we came through Ventura to find the wind howling offshore! After checking little Rincon we headed down to the Queen of the Coast and it was offshore, about 4ft, and only ten or so guys out! Christian and I could not get our suits on fast enough!! We ended up surfing for about three hours until the sun went down and hit the road back down south.  That was our day, we scored In-N-Out, got some in-n-outs, then did it all again!  Hopefully the winds will be kind to us tomorrow, because there definitely should be some swell for the next few days..

Check out these shots of the nine time, and current world champ riding the 5`0 Cole AVISO over the weekend at his brothers invitational event in Cocoa Beach, FL.

I guess Jeremy Johnston was down at the contest representing on his 5`0 when Kelly came up to him on the beach.

He told him that the 5`0 Cole Aviso was the sickest board that he had ever seen and asked to try it out.

Kelly went on to take the heat and the contest, while Jeremy made it to the quarterfinals.

Check back soon for more pics as they come to us…

Cocoa Beach... if you have never been you need to go. There is not always surf, but there is plenty of entertainment around if it goes flat on you..

Trunk Board Madness

Here are some lifestyle shots that I took of Christian over the last few days with my iphone. We have been putting the 5`0 and the new 5`2 through the ringer and I have got to tell you that it is one of the most amazing and versatile boards that I have ever ridden.  Christian has been a huge fan of the 5`0 since its release, even claiming it was one of his favorite all time boards!  Then yesterday we pulled out the 5`2 down at San O and the kid paddles out and just starts flying down the line doing the sickest turns! I swear the second that he stood up the thing just took off!!

After watching him go nuts on a few waves we had to split so Christian could get ready for a short notice mission down to Scorpion with his good friend Pickle.  He is going to take the 5`0 so I am sure he will have some great stories and hopefully a few shots for us upon his return.  Anyway after dropping Christian and meeting up with Aviso warrior Dave Woods, it was time to run back down the trail and put the 5`2 through another round of R and D!

The moment I paddled out I felt this huge smile spread across my face!  The board literally paddles like a dream and glides like you would not believe!  I was able to catch any wave that I wanted, and had no problem pivoting through my turns.  The board just blew my mind!  At firs I thought that it might be too much board for me because I love way the 5`0 skates down the wave for me but the extra volume really changed the whole experience for me.  The 5`2 paddles in like a funboard but turns like a shortboard. It truly bends the line between form and function, and does so with outstanding effect!

My hat goes off to Cole, John, Naki and all of the people who were instrumental in bringing this dream board to life.  Now go get one and try it for yourself, I promise you wont regret it!!

Also check back later in the week for some clips of Christian ripping!

New BD3!!!

The New BD3!! 5`2 x 21 3/4 x 3 1/4

Cole fine tuning the new BD3

Cole fine tuning the new BD3

Today we picked up the plug for the new Black Diamond Three (or Trunk Board as I like to call it).  The board looks INCREDIBLE!!! Cole took the 5`0 BD3 and scaled it up a bit, then added an extra channel to give the bigger guy a little more lift! When you see this board you will blown away, I know I was…

Stretch your imagination...

Stretch your imagination...

A lot of people seem to ask where the idea for the BD3 originated.  It seems to have been born out of pure necessity. Cole and our good friend Naki were collaborating on some new board designs when they began to talk about the difficulties of traveling with your surfboard.  The problem was magnified ten fold in places like Japan where most cars are fairly compact, and the last thing one of the taxi drivers would do is strap anything to the top of there ride.  I actually had this problem on my trip to Japan last year, when we were stranded at Yokohama Station for hours trying to get to our hotel (and when our ride finally arrived to carry the boards, it was a bellman from the hotel who had to carry our boards across town!).

Anyway the answer that they came up with was the Black Diamond.  At only five feet in length you could fit it in the trunk of your car (hence the name “Trunk Board”), and with Cole`s amazing ability to combine form and function, you have a board that is compact and rides like a dream!  When I first got on the original BD I went through a complete paradigm shift regarding what size boards I could ride, and where I could ride them. Everyone who rode the board absolutely loved it.  Not only over seas, but here in the states as well.  I guess the rest is history, and now after several upgrades we have the future in our hands today. Introducing the all new Big Guy BD3!!!
