The tide is super high around town this morning, but conditions are clean, so it could be fun in a little bit. There is a bit of NW windswell leftover, tide just needs to drop a little. Check back later for more shots of the new 6`1 Fireblade (Area 51)…

The 6`1 Aviso Fireblade (Area 51) is finished and was sent to the glasser this afternoon!  Should be finished  next week and then it is off to the Aviso factory for tooling…

Here are a few shots I took of the board before Robo sent it off to Oceanside to get glassed. Also it looks like the 5`5 should be finished on Monday, so it should not be far behind.

Waves are starting to pick up here in Southern California, should be surf all weekend so get on it! Have fun and take care…

Cole finishing up the 6`1 Fireblade

Here are a few shots I took today of Cole finishing off the 6`1 Aviso Fireblade!  As always Cole has been putting his heart and soul into the board, shaping and then reshaping  it numerous times until he has the perfect model to convert to Aviso Technology.  After that its off to the glasser then straight to the factory to begin the tooling process.  We could be looking at a finished product in a little over two weeks if everything goes smoothly. Check back soon for more…

ISD `09 (Take 2)

Here are a few more shots from the International Surfing Day (ISD) event up at Brookhurst street up in HB on Saturday.

There was actually quite a good turnout, especially considering the fact that it was raining on and off all morning.  I almost turned around and went home, thinking that it would get rained out, but I am glad that I didnt!

There were a number of people displaying there goods and giving away gear from Doc, to Vans, to the event organizer, Surfing Magazine.   Hundreds of people showed up to help clean the beach, grab a free t-shirt and test out the latest and greatest from Doc, including the new 5`5 Doc Aviso!

The 5`5 was in the water from the moment that I brought it down, to the moment I left!  From 16 year old groms to 4o year old vets, the New Toy is definitely making a name for itself.  Multiple people agreed that it was the best board they rode that day, and I even had a few people tell me about how they have been riding there New Toy religiously since Doc released that model a year or two back!

After the event up in Huntington Beach, I headed back down south to San Clemente to get ready for our friends party.  My roommates band The Secret People played for a packed house, and everyone celebrated Summer Solstice in style! Even Cole showed up for a bit with his wife Dana, which is always a blast!! Here are a few pics I snapped off..

Also Summer is now in full swing so get those grovelers ready. Now more than ever you will appreciate that BD3, New Toy , or RNF when u are catching all the waves and your friends are bogging on their shortboards!!

Making the best of the small waves with the BD3

THe waves were small today around town, but Taro and I ended up getting some really fun waves on the trunkboards.  I might not have paddled out if we didnt have the 5`1 to try out but I was so glad that I did. I rode the 5`2 to start the session and let Taro try the 5`1 for the first time.

It had been a while since I rode the 5`2, but I was stoked that I did today. My new name for that board is the wave-magnet! It has a lot of float for me at 160 pounds, but it catches waves like funboard would for me.  Any little ripple that came through, I was on it, and it fit right were it needed to in two foot surf.

Half way through the session I switched to the 5`1 and got into a couple of really fun little lefts that came through. That board is magic for me! It just goes really well for me, and I never had to work too hard to put it in the right spot on the wave.  Its size allowed me to keep it in the pocket, and for me it is just the right medium between the amazing wave catching ability of the 5`2 and the high performance aspects of the 5`0.

Today i realized that you could easily have multiple trunkboards in your quiver.  My dream quiver would definitely have a 5`2 for those crummy days when you need that extra float just to ride the waves and have fun, and a smaller board like the 5`1 0r 5`0 when the waves pick up and you really want to put it on rail! Check back soon for more…

5`1 Cole Aviso BD3

We have been logging some serious hours on the 5`1 Cole over the last few days and I have to say, the board is Amazing!  Christian had the board down at Lowers all day Saturday, and I had it at Uppers all day Sunday and Monday.  I had a couple great sessions on the board and let a bunch of my friends try it as well.  The boys were blown away by how fast the board was and how you could hook such tight turns right in the pocket.  It really is a joy to hop on the trunkboard after riding the same shortboard day after day and just approach the wave in a whole new way. The BD3 will fit where your  standard thruster can only dream of being! Check back soon for more…

Jamie Moran on his 6`0 Cole

Check out this shot of New Jersey native Jamie Moran getting shacked on his 6`0 Cole/Aviso Diamond Tail. Jamie is the man, super humble and seems to be one of those guys who only talks when he has something significant to say which I love. Anyway check back soon for more on Jamie…
