THe waves were small today around town, but Taro and I ended up getting some really fun waves on the trunkboards. I might not have paddled out if we didnt have the 5`1 to try out but I was so glad that I did. I rode the 5`2 to start the session and let Taro try the 5`1 for the first time.
It had been a while since I rode the 5`2, but I was stoked that I did today. My new name for that board is the wave-magnet! It has a lot of float for me at 160 pounds, but it catches waves like funboard would for me. Any little ripple that came through, I was on it, and it fit right were it needed to in two foot surf.
Half way through the session I switched to the 5`1 and got into a couple of really fun little lefts that came through. That board is magic for me! It just goes really well for me, and I never had to work too hard to put it in the right spot on the wave. Its size allowed me to keep it in the pocket, and for me it is just the right medium between the amazing wave catching ability of the 5`2 and the high performance aspects of the 5`0.
Today i realized that you could easily have multiple trunkboards in your quiver. My dream quiver would definitely have a 5`2 for those crummy days when you need that extra float just to ride the waves and have fun, and a smaller board like the 5`1 0r 5`0 when the waves pick up and you really want to put it on rail!
