Fun waves today on the 5`0 Aviso!

I got some really fun waves today on my 5`0 Cole/Aviso Bd3 w/ single fin box.  The swell angle was much better today for SC compared to the last few days, especially for the beaches.  I had on of my best sessions yet on my 5`0.  The last few sessions I have been riding it just as a twin fin and I love it.  I am so stoked on how many different setups I can use in this board, that it has become on of my favorites.

The 5`0 BD3 is such an amazing and versatile board. I have ridden it now in everything from little tiny wind swell and had fun, as well as gotten barreled in overhead surf!  It shines in all sorts of conditions. For me personally I ride it in any surf up to slightly overhead surf.  What I sacrifice in paddling from my 5`1 BD3, I more than make up for in the fact that the board will fit in places no other board can once you are in the wave.

As far as the fins go, you can ride more of a standard shortboard setup in a variety of conditions and be completely satisfied. That is how I use to ride it all the time. Since I got the single fin, I have been able to throw that thing in and just have a blast in small surf. I have yet to ride that setup in big surf but it is so much fun to play with.  Recently I got a set of twin fins from Cole that are similar to an MR template and it is amazing. It is like riding a new board each time I change it up. I don`t like it as much for big down the line gouges, but the thing blows tail like no other board I have ever ridden, and as always, the BD3 was made to fly. With this setup I get so much drive it is crazy for a board that small..

These are a few of my favorite things…

Here is a shot of the boards I seem to ride the most these days. The only one I am missing is my 5`9 Fireblade which I lent to Christian. Check back this week as I go more in depth with each model…

Also the waves were fun around town today. Not quite what was forecast, but what`s new!  There was definitely a lot of swell in the water today, but it was not really working that well for the majority of spots. None the less, we should have waves tomorrow and another swell coming for the middle of the week. The forecast is calling for poor conditions when the next swell first hits, but hopefully they will screw the pooch on that one as well. I would post a picture from today but I forgot my camera at home this morning so just imagine a perfect barrel right here……….

Swell filled in to select spots today…

Waves were still pretty small around San Clemente today, but there were still some fun waves to be had. Some select spots were definitely in the overhead range, but most were small and closed out. We ended up going to Salt Creek, then back to the beach breaks in town before dark. Hopefully more will fill in tomorrow…

Swell starting to pick up a bit around town…

The swell finally started to show it`s face a little bit at the beach breaks around town this afternoon. Things are looking good for the next few days, hopefully conditions will cooperate as well. Here is a little shot on the 5`0 BD3 from this afternoon…

More swell on the way for California…

Looks like we should get another shot of WNW swell filling in as I write this and another round following it up next week! We have had a great season so far and thing don`t show any signs of slowing down. With this swell coming at more of a westerly angle (275-300), it should open up most spots, especially here in Southern California.

Check back tomorrow for some shots from around town, for now here is a shot of Kelly Slater exhibiting perfect form on the 5`0 Aviso BD3 by Cole in white pro finish.  Makes me want to go stretch right now…

Comment of the Month

Comment of the month goes to John Perkins out in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

“Ya Nick! Thanks to Aviso for building the best surfboard technology ever! I still have my 5′6 Lost RNF and my friend Kenny is currently south of the border getting pitted on it! What other technology out there can you confidently let your friend borrow to ride in hollow beach break and know it will be coming back home safe? A Firewire or Surftec would have broke years ago. My quiver is going on three years. Since then I have witness my buddy’s spend thousands of dollars on boards that work good for 6 to 8 months max before snapping or becoming a sponge… Thank You Aviso, you have been a true blessing…”

Thanks Perko, I could not have said it better myself…

Breaking in the New Year

Here are a few shots I took today. Lowers was bogged out by the tide early so I headed south to visit family at the ranch then surfed Rivi on the 5`0 BD3 as the tide dropped later in the day…
